Edges and Finish Explained
We can arrange custom finishes and edges on request if you have a particular look or function in mind (like a rebated edge, which is suitable for covering seams and the shell lip in a fibreglass pool).
What is Flamed Edge?
A flamed edge offers a natural-look, textured surface that combines clean, square-cut lines with slip-resistance. High heat flame is used to thermally process the stone, which creates an ideal grippy finish that is safer in wet areas.
What is a Polished Front Edge?
A polished front edge offers a smooth, glossy finished border that creates a smooth face. This is less 'grippy' than a flamed edge, but looks stunning in spaces where clean edges are desired.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does dark granite coping get too hot for bare feet?
Dark colours will always absorb more than light colours, no matter the material. Charcoal Black absorbs more heat than lighter stone, but the textured surface reduces heat retention compared with polished finishes. Dune offers a naturally cooler light-toned alternative with the same finish.
Can granite coping be curved for a freeform pool?
Yes - curved pool coping is one of our custom-manufacture specialties, along with large-format steps up to 2m wide. Ask us about the types of custom formats we can supply for your project.
Does granite pool coping need sealing?
Granite is dense and low-porosity, which makes it more durable than other natural stone. We still recommend a quality impregnating sealer around pools, where sun, chlorine and sand work on the surface daily - this will help to protect your investment for years to come.
What kind of projects can you supply coping for?
All kinds. We can work with architects, designers, landscapers - our client base can be varied, and we can supply to both residential and commercial projects of various scale in Perth.
Do you offer installation services?
No. Granite & Stone Gallery is a supplier of premium natural stone products, not an installer. However, we are happy to provide advice and tips for materials and methods to avoid, in order to get the best longevity and performance from your stone.
Is granite pool coping easy to maintain?
Yes. Natural granite is a very tough stone that resists water, wear and stains. Regular cleaning (rinsing with water or a pH-neutral cleaner) will be sufficient to remove day-to-day detritus. For long-term maintenance, ensure you are sealing the stone with a high quality, penetrating and breathable sealer every few years to keep it protected against pool chemicals.
