12mm tiles suit interior floors and undercover areas laid over slab or screed.

12mm Indoor Tiles vs 30mm Outdoor Paving

Using the right product

12mm is an interior thickness; it is lighter, flush with standard floor build-ups, and suited to indoor floors and undercover alfresco. For exposed outdoor areas and vehicle traffic, use our 30mm granite pavers.

Enhance indoor-outdoor flow

Charcoal Black is stocked in both thicknesses, so a living area or undercover alfresco can run into the exposed paved zone in one continuous stone.

Why Granite Tiles for Interior Spaces?

Granite has been used for centuries in truly inspired design projects - from structural support in ancient Roman projects, to the world-famous architectural pylons of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, to regular homes and commercial projects. Natural granite's properties make it an incredibly dense and hard-wearing material, even in the thinner interior format.

On the Mohs hardness scale, which runs from 1 to 10, granite typically ranges from 6 to 7. It is highly resistant to cracking and scratching, UV, and is less prone to damage from spills and water than other natural stone. If you are looking to install natural stone tiles in a high-traffic area, granite tiles are highly recommended.

Guy was fantastic to deal with. Has a fantastic range of products at a great price.
Guy’s customer service is exceptional. His communication is excellent, and his after sales service is admirable. I went to the store with my sister initially, and we really liked the range of stone and granite available. Guy was very knowledgeable, but never pushy. It made a pleasant change to feel free to ask questions and make my own decisions. He was upfront about delivery times and costs. If you are planning on getting quality pavers you need to plan ahead. Fortunately I did, and there was minimal delay. Once the pool is complete I plan to add photos - if I can get my head around the tech🫣. Paul and I are very pleased with the results so far. Thanks for all of your help and support Guy.

We repaved our outdoor areas earlier this year. We looked at lots of options and decided to go with the Nebula colour travertine from Guy at Granite & Stone Gallery. I found him very helpful and easy to deal with. It took a long time to find a contractor to do the work and he was good about holding the materials for us. We also cladded a retaining wall with stone from him. Originally I was going to get the paving contractor (not associated with this company) to do it but after trying a few he admitted he wasn't confident. Guy gave me good instructions on how to do it myself. The end result looks great.

I'm an actual customer and purchased 40sq meters of Pewter Travertine from Guy. I absolutely love the product delivered. He was flexible and very easy to work with. His preferred installer was also a pleasure to deal with. We looked at Freo Stone and other installers, but went with Guy because the standard and method of installation is simply a step above. Highly recommended!

We can highly recommend Granite and Stone Gallery. The Travertine we chose for our pool surrounds has come up looking fantastic. The quality of the product stood out from all the rest as did the service! Guy was so helpful during the somewhat daunting process of choosing what was best for our pool surrounds and was even able to recommend a great paving contractor to install for us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can 12mm granite tiles be used outside?

We do not recommend using the 12mm granite in place of thicker outdoor paving. The 12mm tiles suit undercover areas; for exposed patios, pool surrounds and driveways use 30mm granite pavers - the extra thickness is better suited for outdoor loads and laying methods, and can be used in a diverse range of exterior projects.

Is a flamed finish too rough for indoor floors?

Flamed granite tiles have a fine, even texture rather than a coarse one - it will still feel pleasantly smooth against bare feet. This finish is used indoors for slip resistance in wet areas, like bathrooms. A more refined honed finish can be custom ordered.

Do granite tiles need sealing indoors?

Granite is dense and low-porosity, but we still recommend a quality impregnating sealer indoors - particularly in kitchens and wet areas - to resist staining and simplify cleaning.

How is granite different to other natural stone tiles?

Other popular stone like marble and travertine tiles are a softer material than granite. All of these types are suitable for your home, and can be easily maintained after proper sealing to enhance durability. While granite tiles will outperform in terms of heat resistance, low porosity and general toughness, you should take into consideration the style and feel you are trying to achieve by incorporating beautiful natural stone. For a more old-world feel, marble or travertine is perfect.

Do you provide installation services?

No. Granite & Stone Gallery is a supply-only business providing premium natural stone tiles, pavers, pool coping and wall cladding for Perth projects. We do not provide installation services, though our team is always happy to offer helpful tips.
